The Pearl River Delta (PRD) region has experienced an impressive, vibrant economic growth over the past two decades. With the unique combination and integration of the distinct advantages of Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao, PRD has now become one of the most dynamic economic clusters in the region, and even the world.
Accompanying the development of a modern knowledge-base economy, whether intellectual property can be fully utilized as a drive for business development becomes an important daily agenda of every progressive enterprise. Investors in PRD now are increasing aware of the importance of managing and protecting intellectual properties in building up the region as a international economic hub. To help these enterprises to grasp fully the intellectual property regimes in Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (the Hong Kong SAR) and the Macao Special Administrative Region (the Macao SAR), a number of government departments from the three places, including, Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation (Guangdong Intellectual Property Administration), Guangdong Copyright Administration of Guangdong Province, Intellectual Property Department of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR and Intellectual Property Department of Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Government of the Macao SAR have jointly developed the "Intellectual Property Database for Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao SAR". This Database enables PRD's existing and potential investors to search in a one-stop-shop manner for information on intellectual property systems throughout the region.
The Database covers online information sources on intellectual property systems in Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong SAR and the Macao SAR. Users can search for information including legislation, registration system and related government bodies in different intellectual property issues such as copyright, trade mark, patent and registered design. We believe that the set up of this Database will substantially improve and strengthen PRD's infrastructure in developing itself toward a knowledge-base economy.
